The Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Marine Robotics (AIMR), Dalian Maritime University is an interdisciplinary research institute that aims to promote research and integration of artificial intelligence techniques and autonomous marine robotics technology. The institute mainly carries out research on artificial-intelligence-based smart navigation, intelligent management and services of ships, and is poised to be a world-class first-rate research institute in the field of smart marine science and technology.
AIMR is led by Prof. Meng Joo Er, published over 500 papers including top-tier international journals and prestigious international conferences. His research works have been cited more than 12,000 times. Prof. Er has been awarded more than 70 honors and awards, including “Web of Science Top 1 % Best Cited Paper”, “Elsevier Top 20 Best Cited Paper Award”, Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) Prestigious Engineering Achievement Awards twice (2011 and 2015), IES Prestigious Publication (Application) Award in 1996, IES Prestigious Publication (Theory) Award in 2001 and Amity Researcher Award (2018). He is currently Editor-in-Chief of two international refereed journals and an Associated Editor of seven international refereed journals.
To promote the development and applications of key technologies for smart ships, the institute adopts an integrated research framework called “5C1M”, namely “Command”, “Control”, “Computing”, “Communication”, “Cooperation” and “Management”. The research team is dedicated to the development and applications of cutting-edge technologies such as cognitive computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data analytics, network control, etc., so as to achieve realization and industrialization of smart ship management and intelligent control techniques.
